Captain Fergus’ Story ~ Jenny Patience, Victoria
Born Yorkpark Millionaire, as per his name sake Captain Fergus was one in a million. Arriving in the boot of a car, he came to us in August 2008 and really changed our lives. A senior Rescue Airedale of 8 ½ years, weighing 38 kgs, he was the delight of our lives. Fergus’ owner’s health circumstances had changed and could no longer care for him so we put our hand up to adopt him. The best decision we have ever made.
Fergus took two weeks to tell us how he wanted the house to be run and show us where we fitted into his pack. He had a wonderfully dry sense of humour, kept us on our toes and had us in constant laughter with his antics. Fergus had a giant smile that could melt your heart in a flash. He was a witty boy who loved to play tricks on us.
He adored the Terrier living behind and quite often would start Cosmo barking; he then would sneak inside leaving Cosmo barking at air, thus causing his owners to growl at him. Fergus meanwhile would be sniggering inside the house, feeling quite pleased with himself. Mission accomplished.
He delighted in being the official P.R. Officer for Airedale Rescue, promoting the selling of Santa Paw Socks and other fundraising activities for his fellow Rescue Airedales. It was a role he took very seriously and with pride.
His other love in life was SNACKS. He was always in the kitchen with me supervising the meals, and offering to do some taste testing.
Fergus developed a major heart condition which sadly took him from us two years later.
Never has anyone touched me or my family as much as Fergus. Our only regret is that we didn’t have him longer but we were blessed with the time we had with him.
