Laika’s Story ~ Julie O’Grady, Victoria
Laika is our first Rescue Airedale and has been an absolute pleasure to have in our family.
Laika’s previous family were moving overseas and were unable to take her. Sue Forrester contacted us just prior to Christmas 2007 to say she had an Airedale needing a new forever home and that this one might just suit our lifestyle.
We went to meet Laika and wanted to take her home with us straight away. She has relished life in her new home and has really come out of herself. I don’t think she ever really got out much so coming to a home on 5 acres with a huge back yard area and a new Mum and Dad who took her everywhere was just what she needed.
Since being part of our family Laika has made many friends on her walks in Warburton on Sunday mornings and has even ventured on a camping holiday and had some ladies at Lake Cargelligo one day say OMG we have never seen an Airedale out here!!
When Laika is not out hunting rabbits these days she spends her time sleeping on her special beds, supervising home renovations, or snoozing on her couch on the back veranda. Sometimes she just has that look saying I can’t believe how lucky I am ……BUT really it is we who are lucky that she came to live with us!
With very heavy hearts and lots of tears we wanted to let you know that our dear Laika Muffet took her journey to rainbow bridge this morning. She is now at peace. Laika came to live with us just a few days before Christmas in 07 about to turn 6! Over the last 7 1/2 years she has been with us she has enjoyed some real adventures from being on the top of mountains, snow at Donna Buang, Pubs in the Outback, girls days out with the roof down, riding in Gator and lots of trips to the beach. We will miss her dearly but know that she had a wow of a time with us!
