Mackie’s Story ~ Mick Webster, Victoria
A successful adoption!
Six months ago my old girl Zippy (12) started to act rather strangely, refusing food, not wanting to come on walks with my hyperactive boy Bingley (5). Then one day when I was away she spent the whole day under a bush in the back yard……ok, emergency calls to vets, none here in town (Chiltern), none in Beechworth or Rutherglen, so a rush trip to Albury to the 24 hour clinic…….. horrible news, seems to be multiple organ failure, offer to carry out tests…… why? She is very ill…… vets always want to carry out tests. So the big decision, carried out painlessly and to the tears from me, my ex and the vet……. Home, dig a hole in the back yard, wine and more tears……
OK me and Bingley, 2 guys batching for a few weeks….. then a call from Sue Forrester – ‘a boy, 5 years old, in Benalla ( an hour down the road), lady owner ill, needs treatment often in Melbourne, boy ADT Mac needs a home’……
Rang Robyn and Ken in Benalla – ‘come down and meet Mac, bring Bingley’……. Very nice meeting at the showgrounds….. Mac is a funny dog, gets on well with Mr B…….. so it’s all go and we’re 3 lads in the house a week later!
Mac becomes Mackie ( he reminds me of the Geelong footballer Steve – short-legged and totally fearless) and he rapidly becomes indispensable to Bingley and me – kitchen inspector, sneaky door-opener, middle-of-the night alarm clock when a cat comes in the yard, jumper on the bed at 6am, seat-warmer in the car when I go into the shops……. A very funny little dog!
Thank you Sue, Ken and Robyn for letting me have him!
