Duke’s Story ~ Jenny Patience, Victoria
Duke, AKA The Duke of Lilydale came to us the week before Christmas 2009 at the age of 20 months. His owner had a serious back injury and being elderly was struggling to give Duke the life a young dog deserved.
He had tried placing him with a couple of different family members but unfortunately it didn’t work out.
Duke landed in Lilydale with a huge smile on his face and could not believe his eyes when he was introduced to our other Rescuedale at the time, Captain Fergus.
They immediately hit it off and became good friends. Duke was always respectful of Fergus’ age and ill health, and was a good companion to the Senior Fergus.
Duke graduated from Dog Obedience School after seven lessons and showed a keen interest in learning, but was not quite as keen to follow through on the obedient part of the lessons.
He lives a busy life organising our family and his two teenage boys, and sister Zena (4)) who was another Airedale addition a year later to our family. His favourite hobbies are walkies, toilet paper snatching ~oh, and we cannot forget messing up his bedding, a game he seems to find very satisfying.
We absolutely adore Duke and cannot imagine life without him. He stepped into the paw prints of Captain Fergus as AireNet’s Christmas fundraising P.R. Officer after Fergus sadly crossed the Rainbow Bridge. It is a role he takes very seriously and is very proud of.
We are so very lucky and thankful to have him own us and be a part of our family.
